    EN MENDOZA

    Snow season in Mendoza

Skiing, sledding and snowball fights a few hours from the city. Bundle up, because the cold is serious.

From mid-June to September the mountains turn white and Mendoza has snow for every taste. Las Leñas, in Malargüe (about 6 hours from the City of Mendoza), is the province's large ski resort; Vallecitos, in Luján de Cuyo, is less than two hours away and ideal for a short getaway; and on the road to Chile, via Potrerillos and Uspallata, there are spots to play in the snow, go sledding and take photos with the mountains in the background.

Before setting out, check the road conditions and the Paso Cristo Redentor: heavy snowfall closes the road and at high altitude you may be asked to carry snow chains. Bring thermal clothing, gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen (the high-altitude sun burns even when it's cold). In the city you can also rent snow clothing and equipment. Below you'll find accommodation, excursions, where to eat and the mountain season's events.

The next one runs from June 15, 2027 to September 30, 2027.

Heading to the High Andes? Check the Cristo Redentor Pass status, the weather and whether chains are required.
