Piattelli Vineyards

Piattelli Vineyards is a winery in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, part of a group with estates in two regions of Argentine wine: Agrelo, in Mendoza, and Cafayate, in Salta. The project began in 2002, when the Malinski family, from the United States, bought estates in Agrelo. Two years later they built the winery on Cobos street, which was later expanded and now has an area designed to receive visitors.

What you can do

What sets it apart is that you can do comparative tastings between the wines from its estates in Agrelo and those from Cafayate, so you can taste in a single visit how wine changes with its terroir. It offers tours and tastings, lunches with a la carte menu at its restaurant Piattelli Grill, a tasting menu on weekdays, and picnics on weekends and public holidays. The venue is also used for celebrations and events.

Wines and landscape

Malbec is the star, with limited-edition varietals, and the Trinità blend (with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot), the Torrontés from Cafayate, a rosé and sparkling wines also stand out. In Mendoza it works with Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Chardonnay, and its vineyards are certified organic. The winery sits at the foot of the Andes, surrounded by vineyards, with its own lagoon and a jetty: it is one of the most beautiful landscapes to explore in the area.

Location and practical information

The winery is on Cobos street, in the middle of Agrelo, one of the best-known microregions of the First Wine Zone of Luján de Cuyo. From El Plumerillo airport it takes about 45 minutes to get there. For tastings it is best to book ahead, since tours usually have fixed times during the day. Before going, check with the winery which experiences are available and on which days.
