Check opening hours
Chakana Wines is a family winery in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo. Juan Pelizzatti founded it in 2002, and it sits about 960 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Andes. Its project revolves around organic and biodynamic wines and caring for the soil and biodiversity of its vineyards. The winery is located at Finca Nuna ("soul" in Quechua).
What to do
The winery welcomes visitors with different experiences. At Los Singulares, you taste wines made from small vineyard plots, each with its own character. El Camino del Agua is a route through the vineyards toward the mountains, which can be done on foot or by bike. There are also food options, such as Mesa Nuna, and bike tours with tasting. It's a good plan if you're interested in seeing how the vineyard is worked and not just tasting the wines.
Wines and landscape
Over the years, Chakana has built several wine lines, from fruity labels for everyday drinking to varietals aged in barrel and single-estate wines. Malbec is one of its best-known grapes: its Chakana Reserve Malbec 2010 won a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition. The landscape is of vineyards with the Andes always in sight, in one of the highest areas of Agrelo.
How to get there and practical info
The winery is on Baldini street, in the Agrelo area, within the Luján de Cuyo wine circuit along Ruta Provincial 15. Several half-day excursions through Agrelo include it along with other nearby wineries. It's best to book your visit in advance by writing to the winery's tourism team, especially if you want to do the walk or the food experience.
